PLATED JEWELLERY

Items of “plated” jewellery are coated in a layer of precious metal; therefore, extra care should be taken to maximize this layer’s lifespan and prevent damage. Please follow our guidelines on caring for your plated jewellery.

  1. Do not spray on perfume or other sprays while wearing your plated jewellery. Wear your jewellery after you have sprayed on your favourite perfume so that chemicals in the spray or perfume do not interact with your jewellery’s metal.
  2. Wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by your skin before you wear your plated jewellery.
  3. Substances like anti-bacterial soaps, alcohol, oil, nail polish/remover, chlorine, hair-dye, perfume and the like may react with metal/plated jewellery and may cause it to tarnish or even remove the plated surface. This also applies to sweat, so make sure you don’t forget to remove your plated jewellery when you exercise or anything that involves heavy physical work.
  4. Never wear plated jewellery whilst doing the washing-up; doing hand-laundry; in the shower or bath.
  5. Never wear plated jewellery whilst swimming.
  6. Never wear plated jewellery in a sauna, steam-room or jacuzzi.
  7. Never wear items of plated jewellery whilst sleeping.
  8. After every use, clean your plated jewellery with a cotton ball or a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt it has acquired.
  9. If your jewellery needs more cleaning you may clean it with warm, very slightly soapy water. Stay away from jewellery cleaners and antibacterial soaps which may have certain components that will make your plated jewellery tarnish more quickly and may also remove the plated surface.
  10. To avoid scratches, wrap your jewellery in a soft cloth after cleaning or keep it in a jewellery box separate from other types of jewellery you have.

Failure to follow these guidelines will void any guarantees.

STERLING SILVER

Sterling Silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals. Over time Sterling Silver will tarnish and turn black. This process usually takes several years to happen, and can be kept at bay with regular, gentle cleaning.

However, exposure to harsh chemicals, rubber/latex, moisturisers, hair-dyes, suntan lotions, anti-bacterial soaps, etc can cause this process to occur more rapidly. Therefore, we advise against exposing your jewellery to these substances.

Furthermore, acidic diaphoresis and may cause compounds within sterling silver to tarnish extremely quickly and even stain the skin.

Please follow our tips on caring for your Sterling Silver jewellery.
